Welcome to Colorado Airheads Beemer Club (CO-ABC)

We are the Colorado chapter of Airheads Beemer Club (CO-ABC). The Airheads Beemer Club (ABC) provides a connection to, and camaraderie with, those who enjoy, maintain and ride airhead BMW Motorcycles manufactured between 1955 and 1995.

In each state and several foreign countries, ABC has an appointed Air Marshal who helps coordinate activities. Our Air Marshal is, Dick Paschen, who keeps a very nice, white R75/5 on the road and has hosted a number of Tech Day sessions over the years.

How to Join Our Eventpeg Group

You need to register for an account with Eventpeg before joining our group. If you haven’t registered with Eventpeg, you can do that here:

After registering with Eventpeg and setting up your account, you can click the “Visit or Join” link at the top of this page which will take you to our home page. You will see a “Join” box on our home page, just click it and you’ve joined the CO-ABC Eventpeg group.  You will receive a followup CO-ABC confirmation email.

Now, you can join any other Eventpeg group you wish. Click the “Groups” tab at the top of the page to see a list of all available groups.

Do You Need to join ABC To Come To Our Events?
You don’t have to join ABC to participate in the CO-ABC Event Peg activities. But if you want to help preserve the knowledge about these classic BMW motorcycles, we hope you will join ABC by clicking the following link.

The ABC charges annual dues and publishes a newsletter and maintains a web site with exclusive content including in-depth technical articles for ABC members.

Does CO-ABC Charge Dues?
Right now we don’t charge a fee to participate in this Eventpeg group.

What Types of Events Do You Hold?
We hold a variety of events including all day Tech Days, Parking Lot Universities (PLU) and social functions where anyone with an airhead is welcome to come. Attendees include new owners who want to know how to time, tune and maintain their bike, as well as experienced amateur and professional “wrenches” who can help you when you want to know how to rebuild front forks, carburetors, brakes, swing arms, etc. There are rides and camp out events as well.

As with any classic motorcycle, there is history and lore surrounding the company and particular models. You will find folks here in Colorado who can share a vast amount of knowledge, and that adds a lot of the fun to the “tire kicking” conversations at our Gatherings.

    Too be totally clear…Are you saying I need 2 sets of jumper wires? Not totally clear on this aspect and how these relate to each cylinder and how they hook-up.

      The same arrangement is used on both cylinders, so there are (2) jumper wires, one for each cylinder.

      Since a jumper is connected to both the top and bottom spark plug leads via the nipple-spoke adapter, shorting one of the spokes on a cylinder shorts out both plugs for that cylinder.

    Wanted to thank you for the great Airhead Tech day and all your help. Great job and great group of guys. Kudos to our host, Dick. Certainly appreciated. I was wondering if you could give me the specs for the wiring layout to sync a dual spark R90/6. It was my blue ’75 R90/6 that you worked on. You mentioned that single and dual spark sync is different hardware. I wanted to construct a ground setup to sync dual spark motor. Thanks, Mike Riley (Fleetwood).

    • Mike,

      To completely short out one side with dual plugs, attach a spoke + nipple to the top of each spark plug. Attach each plug cap to the spoke. (Be carefully that the bottom plug’s cap stays on the spoke as gravity and vibration will try to make it come loose). Then use a jumper wire with an alligator clip on each end to connect to the spokes. When you short the top spoke nibble, it will short both the top and bottom plugs on that side.

      Therefore, you need 4 spoke-nipple adaptors for synching the carbs on a dual plug head when using the plug shorting method.
